Our first landing was at Half Moon Island, and quite an adventure! The 200 (plus or minus) passengers had been divided into 12 groups of about 14 each to be transported from the ship to the island via Zodiacs, rubber inflated motorized boats. We were part of the third group to be taken to the island, but the weather was deteriorating and the waves were getting too large to manage the transfer of people in the Zodiacs. So the landings were cancelled. There were many unhappy tourists, but we were among the happy ones, seeing our first of many penguins up close and personal. On Half Moon Island the penguins were chinstraps.
