We chose Orient Lines and its excellent Antarctica & Amazon itinerary for our vacation celebrating 50 years of Robert's arrival in Montevideo, and our engagement in February 1955.

As is the custom, the cruise began with a pre-cruise land tour. For our itinerary, the pre-cruise was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Upon arrival and checking into the hotel Sheraton Buenos Aires, we had an included bus tour of "Highligts of Buenos Aires." That evening we attended a very good dinner show, featuring tango dancers and singers.

On our second day in Buenos Aires, we went to the Santa Susana Estancia, about 75 kms. North of BA. This was a whole day with the gauchos: We had a buggy ride, a super asado dinner for lunch, a dancing (more tango) and singing show, and a horsemanship show of lancing of the "sortijas." Finally, Tahleen begged for a horseback ride behind a real gaucho!
